[...] Hosni Mubarak is believed to be in generally good health despite past knee and back problems and some hearing deficiency, and was elected last year to a term that does not end until 2011. But some believe he is eager to hand over power. Gamal Mubarak, who is 42, has risen rapidly through the ranks of his father’s National Democratic Party in the past four years and now is deputy secretary general.
[...] I wasn’t expecting anything regarding “democracy” or “reform” out of Rice’s recent visit to Cairo.
[...] According to this weeks edition of al-Karama (49/2006) Bush were discussing the case of Ayman Nour refering to discussions with the “heir” Gamal Mubarak in the World Street Journal september 9th. I haven’t been able to verify this, but it’s anyway an interesting remark, or slip of toungue by Bush. The Arabist covers the case. [...]
