Blogger Ayoub’s release stalled… again
Published by Hossam el-Hamalawy November 22nd, 2006 in Bloggers, Breaking News, Egypt مصر, Human Rights حقوق إنسانI received news that detained blogger Ayoub should have been released this morning after his lawyer and family submitted all the requested legal papers. The Belbeis Prosecutor’s office itself cleared Ayoub of any charges, and ordered his release.
However, instead of his immediate release, Ayoub is to spend the night at the Belbeis Police Station, to be interrogated by Sharqiyya State Security officers tomorrow.
Sharqawi has more details in Arabic here. He reports that Secuocrats who arrived today in Belbeis from Cairo are behind Ayoub’s continued detention.
For background on Ayoub’s arrest, check this posting…
UPDATE: Blogger Asad who was with Ayoub the night the latter was arrested posted his testimony here.
UPDATE: Blogger Mohamed Gamal was also with Rami the night he was arrested.

is it a normal procedure that state security office would interrogate him??
i hope yes!
No it’s not normal. He should have been released following the prosecutor order, but thanks to the emergency law, police can detain him at the police station and transfer him to SS office tomorrow where they can either release him or keep him as long as they wanted…
You have a very impressive blog here. Very sad to hear about Ayoub’s case. I wonder, how does your government ever find out the exact specific person running the blog? Was Ayoub’s blog anonymous? I mean, I always thought that high profile bloggers like Ayoub would make posts from the nearest Internet cafe, of a college campus, etc., but wouldn’t dare to make posts from his home as an attempt to conceal their IP address. Oh well, I hope Ayoub get’s released soon!

Thanks for your support.. He’s finally released!
