If yesterday’s fascists wear suits today, they are still fascists to me…
Published by Hossam el-Hamalawy November 26th, 2006 in LebanonI can’t stand the hypocrisy and the crocodile tears everyone is shedding over Pierre Gemayel.
Some forgot that the Gemayyels-founded Phalange was, has been, and is a fascist party whose share of massacres outnumbered all other parties during the civil war.
I dedicate the following poster–produced by the Phalange in the 1970s, part of AUB library collection–to Lebanon’s Gucci revolutionaries, a.k.a. March 14th…
UPDATE: And here are the Phalange today…

Well…Gemayel junior wasn’t out there participating in the fascism and attacks, was he? I assume he would have been too young. And if a group gives up violence, doesn’t it make sense to not target their people for assassination? People could easily say that all Islamists today are legitimate targets for all kinds of repression because some of the more out-there ones committed violence in the 1970s and 1980s.
For all those debating back and forth Gemayel’s assassination, Patrick Seale’s article in al-Hayat last week is a highly-accurate analysis of what it means, in all senses of the word.

I summon what SP said above. Pierre was very young during the war. He never fought. The group renounced violence and Pierre was trying to create something new out of the kataeb..besides, as SP said, it was wrong to kill him right?
And what about Hezbollah?? Didn’t they kidnap and kill westerners in the 80s? It’s exactly the same thing.
I believe it would be very hard for you to look for someone in Lebanon who doesn’t have blood on his hands from the war. Hariri is an exception though.
An additional point.
Thanks Hoss..I didn’t know Lebanon’s entire Sunni community, its entire Druze community, and a large chunck of its Christian community are Gucci wearers! I bet Gucci is quite happy with the sales in Lebanon. I mean the million who showed up on March 14 and the 800,000 who showed up a few days ago are all Gucci customers.
Come on Hoss!
To the Big Pharaoh : “everyone has blood on their hands except Harriri”. Well thats why he was killed !!
