Al-Azhar students protest security crackdown
Published by Hossam el-Hamalawy December 10th, 2006 in Activism, General, Human Rights حقوق إنسان, Left يسار, Political IslamSince Thursday, Al-Azhar University campus in Nasr City has been raging with demos by student activists, over the expulsion of eight activists with the newly formed Free Student Union. Acting on the beheset of State Security, the administration has excluded six Muslim Brothers and two Kefaya activists from the term exams and denied them the right to education.
Today the students continued their demos on campus, which came under security siege.
Here are photos of today’s protest, taken by Amr Abdallah and Nasser Nouri…
The FSU is an independent student association, launched last year by the MB and Socialists, to try to act as a parallel organization to the official student union which is run by the security services. The initiative picked up this year following the grotesque security abuses against activists in October and November this year.

No mention at all of the Hamas style militia rally they held? That’s not very fair reporting now is it.
Senefru, this is a blog, not a news wire service. Sometimes I have time to report in details on events, and sometimes I don’t have a single moment to write about lots of things, because I have a full time job. That’s why I totally refuse the accusation of unfair reporting. This blog is NOT a news website. It’s my blog, and I post whenever I have the time, or feel like it.
And on another note, this masked “militia” business is bogus, and I blogged about it today only after the security crackdowns and the media withchunt

As always, thanks for taking time to check and read my blog, and your feedback will always be welcomed…

Thanks for the clarification Hossam, and sorry I didn’t mean to offend you.
Hossam, nice photoshow, however, I would like to register that these students have crossed the boundaries of free speech and they deserve to be punished, although the authority need to take care not to jeopardize their future by returning them to their schools soon.
