Jerusalem Post: Long Live Mubarak
Published by Hossam el-Hamalawy February 7th, 2007 in Egypt مصر, Human Rights حقوق إنسان, Mubarak مبــارك, Palestine, Political IslamHere’s an article, I found via Issandr, by Andrew Rosemarine, some British self-described “human rights lawyer,” reiterating the same retarded argument:
If the Brotherhood does come to power, it might spell disaster for all progressive-minded Egyptians, for Egypt’s allies, and for Israel. In spite of the regrettable but inevitable restrictions on human rights that Mubarak’s crackdown entails, perhaps the West would be wise to let the Egyptian rais do what is necessary, without undue criticism.
You can click on the photo below to read the whole article. But to cut a long story short, our “human rights lawyer” here is basically telling the West that they should be silent as Mubarak cracks down on the Brotherhood, as the latter are “fantatical” and want to “destroy Israel.”
[Above: Kefaya demo, 6 Aug 2006, in front of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, to denounce Mubarak's foreign policy vis a vis Israel's war on Lebanon. Demonstrators demanded the expulsion of Israel's ambassador to Cairo. (Photo by Nasser Nouri) ]
So, the West should be silent as Mubarak refers MB activists to military tribunals. The West should be silent when MB activists get tortured, and die in prisons and police stations. The West should be silent as the govt rigs parliamentary, labor union, and student union elections so the MB wouldn’t win…
Sir, you are a retarded moron, and if that’s your understanding of “human rights” then I don’t want to call myself a human rights activist. Putting aside your factual errors about the Brothers and their involvement in terrorism and their “fanatical” views, didn’t you stop for a second to think that the same measures Mubarak applies to the Brothers will be enforced tomorrow on the “progressive-minded Egyptians” you are so worried about?! Isn’t Mubarak the same ruler whose regime is prosecuting blogger Kareem, the secularist? Weren’t his Gestapo, who are currently enjoying grilling the Brothers , the same ones who sodomized Kefaya blogger Sharqawi the “progressive leftist”? Didn’t Mubarak’s supporters sexually assault secualr women reporters and activists in the street in broad day light on Referrendum Day in 2005?
I’m nominating Andrew Rosemarine for Moron of the Year.

The person holding that picture is an idiot! once again “THE SIMPLE ARAB MIND” at work!! Just because Mubarak says Hizbolla, or terrorism is wrong they say he is a zionist! I am no supporter of Mubarak but i’d much rather see him in power than any of thoseidiot religious zeolts! Ya Khosara ya masr” you used to be an open minded non-violent society, now Radical Islam is going to destroy us! Hasbi Allah wa Ni3ma Elwakil!
Look, I can hardly claim to speak for the Egyptian People, but I suspect that the majority of them don’t want a Muslim Brotherhood government. So what’s the problem? Let the Brothers represent that segment of the population that agrees with them. Discarding the rule of law and subjecting citizens to arbitrary arrest and military trials (when normal courts won’t deliver the desired verdicts) pose a far greater danger to the short and longterm health of the society than the Brothers do.
so a ‘lawyer’ is claiming that two wrongs make a right, then? surely the only right way is one of balance, justice & fairness - the fundamentals of law?
if that that article was stupid, check out this letter, written by a “barrister” called andrew rosemarine to a british newspaper. could it be the same man? i fear so. if not, there are two of the idiots at large.
shoot on sight
incidentally, this is probably my favourite letter in the world…
Sir, I turned teetotal having seen, as a barrister, many lives destroyed by alcohol: those of both otherwise law-abiding citizens, who committed acts of violence when drunk, and their victims.
Like Judge Charles Harris, QC, and the Council of Her Majesty’s Circuit Judges (report, August 10), my many Muslim friends also see large-scale loutish alcoholism, and the society which permits it, as decadent.
Allowing pubs to open round the clock will increase Muslim disaffection and support for those fighting such decadence. Extended drinking hours may cause more terrorism.
