Hossam, I’m a big fan of your blog overall, and I completely agree that the US should pull out of Iraq, but I can’t help but think that when a significant portion of your links to stories about Iraq are the latest news about US fatalities that you are in some way celebrating or glorifying their deaths. I’m probably misinterpreting, as the blog format tends to do, but I’d be curious to see a self-reflective post about your thoughts on the Iraq war.
Hello Rashad, Thanks for your interest in my blog, and I do follow your insightfull comments you leave on the mother blog, The Arabist.
Regarding my position on Foreign troops here in our region: I’m AGAINST the war on Iraq and Afghanistan. I regard the participant troops as military occupation soldiers, and it’s the right of the people in these countries to resist them and it’s my duty as a socialist to extend solidarity to them (even if they are not secularists).
I’m sorry I do not have sympathy for the Hooowah-shrieking US soldiers in any part of our region. I do NOT wan to see any of them here.
I want to see more Americans coming to our region: American teachers, American human rights activists, American scientists, American tourists, American researchers, scholars and journalists… but I do not want to c Americans in military uniforms.
Thanks again for following my blog.
