Very disturbing report…

An ominous news item appeared in Sawt El-Umma [Voice of the Nation] Egyptian newspaper on page 11 of the 14 May 2007 issue. The article was entitled: “First Incident of its Kind…Oumrania Mabaheth [detective police] Violated the Apartment of a Baha’i Lady and Threatened Raping Her and Fabricating a Narcotics Charge on Her in the Name of the New Terrorism Law.”
The writer, Antar Abd El-Latif, described this incident as “a most recent victim of the suffering of Egyptian people, is a Bahá’í woman named Sahar Galal Mahmoud Mabrouk, when the police violently entered her home, destroyed her furniture, and threatened her and her daughter with rape, her only guilt is that she was recorded in a TV session conducted by the colleague Wa’el El-Ibrashi on Dream Channel’s al-Haqiqah [The Truth] program, which dealt with the situation of the Baha’is in Egypt and the discrimination they have been exposed to, according to her point of view.”
The journalist continues, “Sahar Mabrouk told us the details of the violation of her home and the threats to rape her and her daughter, saying ‘last Sunday, 6 May a police detective officer from Oumrania station along with five police deputies intruded into my bedroom and the police deputy named Rabeeh said: get up and talk to the Pasha and bring the Hashish that you have. I responded by affirming that I am a respectful head of my household and I do not get involved in such things, he then slapped me on my face. They started then searching the apartment and destroying everything they touched. My daughter Yamna was shocked with terror. They did not find anything in the apartment, and their principal goal according to the words of policeman Rabeeh: you are a Bahá’í and you had appeared with Wa’el El-Ibrashi and I’ll take you with me to the State Security Police.’”
The article continues, “Sahar affirmed…the police deputy threatened her with rape and that he will repeat the rape with her daughter who did not reach the age of 16 yet, and that raping her daughter will be carried out in front of her. She was then handcuffed and taken down the street in humiliation, without any legal warrant.”
Sahar added that “the TV program was done approximately a year ago, and I did not understand why they violated my home and threatened to rape me in the presence of my children Umayma and Samy. In the Oumrania police station, the officer brought a package of [supposedly] narcotics and placed them on his desk in front of me and threatened to prosecute me with a case of huge magnitude. However, the chief of Mabaheth [detective police] intervened and ordered the officer to leave me alone after it became obvious to him that the whole case was fabricated simply because I am a Bahá’í and have been persecuted because of this….”
