The Politics of Hypocrisy…
Published by Hossam el-Hamalawy June 15th, 2007 in Amreeka, Egypt مصر, Human Rights حقوق إنسان, Imperialism إمبريالية, Mubarak مبــارك, Palestine, Police شرطةThe House of Representatives on Tuesday advanced legislation aimed at pressuring Egypt to improve its human rights record by withholding some military aid until progress is made.
The House Appropriations Committee approved a wide-ranging foreign aid bill for next year that would hold back $200 million in military funds for Egypt until the close U.S. ally takes steps to curb police abuses, reform its judicial system and stop weapons smuggling from Egypt to Gaza.
This is nothing but another cosmetic move as Mubarak’s regime’s notorious reputation is becoming an increasing liability and embarrassment for those in DC who are bombing the living shit out of our region in the name of “democracy”… Not a single penny from the US tax payers money should go into the pockets of Mubarak’s regime, whether it’s “military” or “economic” aid… Anyways, I know what will happen… Mubarak will leave the “curb police abuses, reform its judicial system” part (after all Knuckles is looking forward to more internships in Lazoughli, Nasr City and Hadayeq el-Qobba) and focus solely on the “stop weapons smuggling from Egypt to Gaza” bit. It’s the same thing Mubarak has been doing since the outbreak of the Palestinian intifada in 2000. Whenever he receives any criticism about his security services, we immediately find a “peace conference” held in Sharm, where he tries to appear as a “peace broker” to convince the Americans he’s still a valuable asset in helping them run the region and keep it stable. And although Hosni has clearly failed in his tasks with his inability to stop the Palestinian intifada, failure to bring about a solution in his backyard in Darfur, Condi doesn’t cease competing with her ambassador in Cairo in praising “Mubarak’s wisdom.”
So ya shabab, to cut a long story: Expect more arrests in Sinai, and more torture of Bedouins and Palestinians, and mysterious “tunnels” and “ammunition cashes” discovered… Actually, I call on all patriots to get involved in a campaign to make sure those dollars make it to Cairo baby. Everyone.. off to Sinai.. find those tunnels and naughty weapon smugglers…
