A manslaughter inquiry has been ordered into the deaths of two teenagers which sparked riots in a Paris suburb.
A judge ordered the inquiry on Monday, after six hours of violence that subsided around midnight on Sunday.
A second night of fighting ignited late on Monday as about 160 police fired tear gas and rubber bullets during running battles with rioters.
A witness said the police, in riot gear and paint guns to identify rioters, were pelted with stones and large fire-crackers.
Dozens of youths clashed with police on Sunday after a 15- and a 16-year-old teenager were killed in a traffic accident with a police car.
