I received the following message from a friend in Cairo…

At their meeting in New York last week, AUC’s Board of Trustees responded to a resolution passed by the Faculty Senate relating to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In its resolution, the board noted that AUC does not take positions on political issues… the board voted to neither accept nor approve the Faculty Senate’s resolution.

    Don’t take political positions my ass… why the hell does a university in Cairo have people in New York making its decisions?

    Exactly…! I hope the AUC faculty and student activists mobilize against this…

    @yaman:

    i totally disagree with AUC’s stance. i went to New York University, and we boycotted Coca Cola products, and are still boycotting the products due to poor labor practices. The entire university decided this together, therefore the university no longer buys anything coca cola (including bottled water and other drinks).

    however, AUC has an office in New York because AUC is an American University. It’s accredited by American accreditation organizations and therefore has to meet certain standards…US standards. It walks a very thin and tricky line with it’s position, but that’s why it has an office in New York.

    Just in case you were wondering.
