The latter, whose name rarely gets mentioned, was a real hero of the Indian poor, who regarded independence as a liberation from both: The British colonialists and the Indian elite, who funded and supported Gandi’s Congress Party…

    Dude, Hossam - it’s spelled ‘Gandhi’ - ‘Ghandi’ is the classic American misspelling that makes desis wince, come on, be on the right side now :)
    There’s some interesting stuff written on radical flanks in social movement theory that emphasizes the importance of the Black Panthers, etc in making people like Martin Luther King get taken seriously by the mainstream. Book by Herbert Haines, I think, you’ might enjoy it.

    Actually it’s the classic “Egyptian” misspelling.. coz as u know we say it “3′andi” in Arabic..
    Feel free to share more info about the life of Bhagat.. he’s a great man who remained loyal to the cause of social liberation till the day he died..
