Israeli professors are not sure yet how big of an impact the one-week-old movement will have, but started discussing the significance of and possible counteractions against the campaign.

• Strike threat at UK’s Northern Rail – Wikinews, the free news source – The RMT say that private rail contractor Northern Rail, which runs commuter rail services in the north of England, has been victimising union representatives and making unilateral changes to working conditions and payments made to staff attacked while on duty. It says that disciplinary procedures are not being followed and promises over the position of train guards when the Penistone line converts to tram-trains have not been kept.
• "CIA Station Chief In Algeria Accused In Two Sex Assaults: Official, 41, Was Ordered Back to U.S." By Joby Warrick – In the affidavit, filed in federal court in Washington, the women give similar accounts of being assaulted by a man described as an official of the U.S. Embassy in the Algerian capital. The official is identified in the affidavit as Andrew Warren, an "employee of the U.S. government" assigned to the embassy.
• Former CIA station chief target of rape inquiry – CNN.com – In that search, authorities also found about a dozen tapes that are thought to show the officer engaged in sexual acts, the source said, including some in which women are believed to be in a semiconscious state. CNN's source had not seen the tapes but had been briefed on their content. Some of the tapes include date stamps indicating that the recordings happened when he would have been serving in Cairo, Egypt, before his tenure in Algeria.
• Al Jazeera English – Business – World growth ‘lowest in 60 years’ – The International Monetary Fund has slashed its economic growth forecasts, predicting global growth is set to fall to its slowest pace in six decades.
  "World growth is projected to fall to … its lowest rate since World War II, [reaching] 0.5 per cent in 2009," the organisation said in a sharp downward revision of its November forecasts.
  It also predicted that banking industry losses may reach $2.2 trillion, sharply worsening its previous estimate of $1.4 trillion.
  The IMF said in two reports published on Wednesday the continuing financial crisis was restricting credit for companies and consumers and was the primary reason the global economy was in dire straits.
  Meanwhile, the International Labour Organisation has predicted that up to 50 million people may lose their jobs in 2009.

• U.S. Navy ordered to release Iran weapons ship – On Jan. 19, the U.S. Navy stopped the Iranian ship and conducted a two-day search in Egyptian territorial waters. Officials said the cargo contained artillery shells and other ammunition, but the captain did not identify the end-user. They said the ship was destined for the Egyptian port of Damietta.
