Statement from the Tax Collectors’ Free Union بيان من النقابة المستقلة لموظفي الضرائب العقارية
The Tax Collectors‘ Free Union issued a statement denouncing the state-backed General Union of Insurance, Bank and Finance Workers, accusing the latter of trying to hijack the free union’s project to establish a retirement fund for the Real Estate Tax Collectors.
The latest move by general union head Farouk Shehata comes amid continuous stepped up rhetoric by the state-backed union bureaucrats. I was chatting with a labor organizer involved in the current unionization effort about this issue a couple of days ago. He summed up the attitude of the state union men by this: “First, they tried to crush to strikes. They failed. They decided to step aside and do nothing, watching helplessly, only to find the carpet being pulled from beneath their feet slowly. The tax collectors (free union) was a big hit to them. Now it’s become a fashion to speak about independent unions everywhere. They felt their existence is coming to an end. That’s why they started raising their voices and shout every now and then. You have general union heads, with great history of betrayals and treason, suddenly saying they support or even call for strikes. (President of the corrupt, state backed General Federation of Trade Unions Hussein) Megawer is getting into fights with (Finance Minister Youssef Botross) Ghali over demands. You can expect more of this in the future. But there are limits of course and red lines they will never cross, and you don’t know for how long they’d be able to maintain this very fragile balance between the workers and the govt they are serving. After all those ‘yellow trade unionists’ got their jobs thanks to State Security (police).”
From Reuters…
United Nations investigators said on Monday Israel violated a range of human rights during its invasion of Gaza, including targeting civilians and using a child as a human shield.
The accusations came in reports to the U.N. Human Rights Council which also called for an urgent end to Israeli restrictions on humanitarian supplies to Gaza and a full international investigation into the conflict.
“Civilian targets, particularly homes and their occupants, appear to have taken the brunt of the attacks, but schools and medical facilities have also been hit,” said one report by Radhika Coomaraswamy, the U.N. Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict.
The Sri Lankan human rights lawyer visited the region in early February. She cited a long series of incidents to back her charges.
In one, she said, Israeli soldiers shot a father after ordering him out of his house and then opened fire into the room where the rest of the family was sheltering, wounding the mother and three brothers and killing a fourth.
In another, on January 15, at Tal al Hawa south-west of Gaza City, Israeli soldiers forced an 11-year-old boy to walk in front of them for several hours as they moved through the town, even after they had been shot at.

Red-baiting – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Red-baiting is the act of accusing someone, or some group, of being communist, socialist or, in a broader sense, of being significantly more leftist at their core than they may appear at the outset. The term is used mainly with the intention of discrediting the individual’s or organization’s political views as dishonest and/or haphazard. The implication in red-baiting is usually that the target represents an ill-intentioned external force which has no proper place in a given political party, coalition, or union.
COINTELPRO – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to attorney Brian Glick in his book War at Home, the FBI used four main methods during COINTELPRO:
1. Infiltration: Agents and informers did not merely spy on political activists. Their main purpose was to discredit and disrupt. Their very presence served to undermine trust and scare off potential supporters. The FBI and police exploited this fear to smear genuine activists as agents.
2. Psychological Warfare From the Outside: The FBI and police used myriad other “dirty tricks” to undermine progressive movements. They planted false media stories and published bogus leaflets and other publications in the name of targeted groups. They forged correspondence, sent anonymous letters, and made anonymous telephone calls. They spread misinformation about meetings and events, set up pseudo movement groups run by government agents, and manipulated or strong-armed parents, employers, landlords, school officials and others to cause trouble for activists.
3. Harassment Through the Legal System: The FBI and police abused the legal system to harass dissidents and make them appear to be criminals. Officers of the law gave perjured testimony and presented fabricated evidence as a pretext for false arrests and wrongful imprisonment. They discriminatorily enforced tax laws and other government regulations and used conspicuous surveillance, “investigative” interviews, and grand jury subpoenas in an effort to intimidate activists and silence their supporters.
4. Extralegal Force and Violence: The FBI and police threatened, instigated, and themselves conducted break-ins, vandalism, assaults, and beatings. The object was to frighten dissidents and disrupt their movements. In the case of radical Black and Puerto Rican activists (and later Native Americans), these attacks—including political assassinations[who?] — were so extensive, vicious, and calculated that they can accurately be termed a form of official “terrorism”
Agent provocateur – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An agent provocateur may be a police officer or a secret agent of police who encourages suspects to carry out a crime under conditions where evidence can be obtained; or who suggests the commission of a crime to another, in hopes they will go along with the suggestion and be convicted of the crime.
A political organization or government may use agents provocateurs against political opponents. The provocateurs try to incite the opponent to counter-productive or ineffective acts to foster public disdain—or provide a pretext for aggression against the opponent (see Red-baiting).
Historically, labor spies, hired to infiltrate, monitor, disrupt, or subvert union activities, have used agent provocateur tactics
