Calls for the detainees' release

I received a statement from the Muslim Brothers, announcing that the Liberties’ Committee at the Lawyers’ Syndicate in Cairo will be holding a conference this Thursday, titled “Together for the release of the detainees.

There will be speakers from the Muslim Brothers, Revolutionary Socialists, Karama Party, the Islamist-leaning Labor Party, Ghadd Party, Kefaya and its sister the Popular Campaign for Change.

A documentary on the abuses against pro-judges activists will be shown at 6pm, according to the statement, followed by speeches from the representatives of the participating political groups.

More than 600 Muslim Brotherhood activists have been arrested during the pro-judges demos on the 11th and 18th of May (in addition to dozens targeted in selective arrests campaign in Cairo and the other provinces). Also, around 60 secular activists, mainly socialists, have been detained since the last week of April. The detainees have complained they were subject to assaults by plainclothes thugs, and some were tortured by State Security police following their arrest.
